WordStructor Roadmap — What's Coming Next

WordStructor is built in the open. Our product roadmap reflects the features our community has requested most, the technical investments needed to support them, and our long-term vision for the future of AI-powered book writing. This is not a marketing document — it is a living plan that evolves based on user feedback, market trends, and our own commitment to building the best book generation platform in the world. We update this page quarterly with progress reports and timeline adjustments.

Our Development Philosophy

WordStructor follows a phased development approach inspired by the Shape Up methodology. We work in six-week cycles, each focused on a specific set of features. Between cycles, we spend two weeks on cooldown — fixing bugs, addressing technical debt, and reviewing community feedback to inform the next cycle's priorities. This rhythm ensures we ship meaningful improvements every two months while remaining responsive to user needs.

Our roadmap is organized into three horizons: Now (what we are actively building), Next (what is planned for the upcoming cycle), and Later (what we are exploring for future quarters). Community upvoting on our blog and feedback forum directly influences which features move from Later to Next to Now.

Detailed Feature Descriptions

Now

Real-Time Team Collaboration

Expected: July 2026

The most requested feature in our community by a wide margin. Multiple users editing the same project simultaneously, with live cursor visibility, conflict-free merging, inline comments, and granular permission controls. Currently in beta testing with a group of power users. See our team collaboration page for the full feature specification.

Now

Plugin Store v2.0

Expected: August 2026

A complete rewrite of the plugin marketplace with support for paid plugins, developer API documentation, plugin versioning, and a review system. The new store will let third-party developers build and sell plugins for genre-specific analysis, custom export formats, AI model integrations, and workflow automation. Plugin store v2.0 is the foundation for WordStructor's ecosystem strategy.

Now

Mobile Companion App

Expected: August 2026

A lightweight mobile app (iOS and Android) for reviewing drafts, leaving comments, tracking progress, and capturing writing ideas on the go. The mobile app syncs with your desktop projects via cloud sync. It is designed for the review and feedback workflow, not as a full writing environment — though basic note-taking and voice-to-text will be supported.

Next

Team Billing & Seat Management

Expected: Q3 2026

Organizations will be able to purchase team plans with a pool of seats that can be assigned and reassigned dynamically. Includes consolidated billing, usage analytics, admin controls, and the ability to mix individual and team plans within the same organization. Essential for our growing agency customer base.

Next

Version Control System

Expected: Q3 2026

A Git-inspired version control system for manuscripts. Branch, merge, diff, and tag your book projects with the same tools developers use for code. This will enable experimental writing branches — try a different plot direction without losing your original — and clean merges when collaborating with co-authors.

Later

macOS & Linux Builds

Exploring for Q4 2026

WordStructor is currently a Windows-only desktop application. We are exploring native builds for macOS and Linux, potentially using a cross-platform framework to maintain a single codebase. This is a major engineering initiative and depends on our team growth and funding trajectory.

Later

Audiobook Generation & Amazon Ads Integration

Exploring for Q4 2026+

Two high-impact features on our long-term radar. Audiobook generation would use AI text-to-speech to create audiobook versions of completed manuscripts, with human-narrated quality options using ElevenLabs or similar providers. Amazon Ads integration would let authors create, manage, and optimize ad campaigns for their books directly from the publishing dashboard.

Long-Term Vision

Beyond specific features, our long-term vision for WordStructor is to become the operating system for book creation — the single application where authors go from idea to published book to ongoing marketing and sales management. We envision a platform where:

This vision is ambitious, and we are building it step by step, release by release. Every feature we ship moves us closer to a world where anyone with a story to tell can bring it to life with professional quality, regardless of their technical skills or budget.
